Dumbbells

When using dumbbells there are a few tips to keep in mind, always keep your back straight and always lift the weights in a slow, controlled motion. It is important to lift the dumbbells slowly because if you lift them fast you will be using more momentum than effort from your muscles, lifting the dumbbells slowly is also more controlled so you are less likely to have an accident and as you are stood freely as opposed to using a weight bench or multi-gym this is a good thing. You can sit while using dumbbells but this can be tricky as you have less space, there are lots of weight lifting exercises that you can do and most dumbbells come with examples of weight lifting exercises that you can do but the basic dumbbell curl is by far the best for building strong biceps.

When lifting dumbbells is it best to count how many repetitions you do, you can then count how many sets of these individual repetitions you do and try to improve the amount of sets that you do or the amount of individual repetitions in each set. You should choose an amount of repetitions in the set that is comfortable yet leaves you feeling like you have worked hard and you should have a small rest between each set, if your muscles hurt you should stop although they will feel strained as you exercise so be sure that you know the difference, the key is that if they are in real pain (especially after a few minutes) you should stop.

When lifting weights it is also important to give your muscles rest with a one day on, one day off plan being the most popular. This gives your muscles a days rest and will allow your body to recuperate, rest is very important with weight lifting as weight lifting damages your muscles and they have to repair which makes them stronger.
